International Day of Peace
On Friday 21st September, we went to Harmony Woods to celebrate the International Day of Peace 2018. There were 9 other schools also there, including Harrow Way. We all gathered behind a giant white silky dove and paraded through the woods. We carried some of the doves that other members of Portway had made.
We had some photos taken and we listened to a personal message from Doctor Jane Goodall, which everyone at Portway also shared in assembly. It was an honour to be invited. We planted an aspen tree to mark this day and we also met the Mayor and Mayoress.
The day was put together for us by Wendy Davis, who organises events for Andover Trees United, and the Roots and Shoots company. We thank them very much for helping to mark an important day. We had a great time celebrating the International Day of Peace and were glad to be able to go.
John Baxter made a video of the day - click the link to watch!
