Sporting Updates

Rugby: Recently we arranged a friendly tag-rugby fixture against Anton Junior School. We took a year 5/6 team and a year 3/4 one. It was a lovely afternoon of competitive but very friendly games with everyone trying to improve their skills as well as enjoying themselves. Both team played 3 games and managed to win 1 each. Many thanks to Anton for hosting and providing referees for the games. Also thank you to Mr Hession and Miss Marchment for looking after the teams (and Mr Deery for driving the minibus).Squad: George Chubinidze, Alfie Smith, Cassius Mitchell, Riley Green, Robert Sawyer, Albie Head, Lily Clackson, Matthew Cooke, George Baulsom, Freddie Randall, Travis Woodley, Xander Gillies, Harry Marchment-Nelson, Elijah Day, Megan Nikolic, Isaac Rodney, Keira Inman, Callum Brown, Harry Pay

Football: We recently had a cup football match against an Anton team. We mixed the 2 sides around for the cup games to give children a chance to play with some different players so it was a mixture of the A & B team. It was a very good game and there were plenty of goals with the final score being 7-4 to Portway. Well done to all of the team and thank you to Mr Goulding and Mr Staff for looking after the team. Squad:Bailey Burnell, Salem Barahmeh, Harry Connell, Makhi Twigg, Finlay Hewlett, Luke Davis, Jamie Andrews

Netball: The netball team had a match against St Mary Bourne School and, once again, came away with a great result. The final score was 8-2 to Portway and, as mentioned last week, maintains the 100% record this year. This is really an incredible record and the whole squad (not just those who played this game) should be congratulated on working so hard throughout the year. As far as we can tell this has not happened at Portway for a very long time. Squad: Sophie Hammett, Callum Brown, Alana Hammerton, Harvey Hawkins, Lucy Sullivan, Arina Purja-Pun, Xander Gillies, Grace Davis,

Football:  The B team played a match against Pilgrim’s Cross. This is a new school with small numbers at the moment but, to their credit, they still wanted to get involved in the football league. In the end Portway won 21-0 but the whole team felt that Pilgrim’s Cross should be congratulated on the way they approached the game and the fact they never let their heads drop. We look forward to some closer games in the near future as they grow in numbers. Squad: Charlie Holloway, Salem Barahmeh, Harry Connell, Phoenix Jones, Rohan Limbu,Travis Woodley, Jamie Andrews, Finlay Hewlett, Luke Davis

New Age Kurling: This week Mrs Seymour and Miss Freemantle took 3 teams to a competition at Harrow Way. Once again it was a lovely event and everyone really enjoyed the experience. The result was very encouraging with Portway coming 1st, 2nd & 3rd! A great performance by all involved. Many thanks to Harrow Way School for putting on such an enjoyable and friendly event.
